Multiple email failures for accounts

Question:

Seeing multiple Failure emails across different days. What is the root cause of these errors?

A few examples:
Account number: EN-6212343-USD on 12/17/2019 21:46:37 UTC.
Account number: EN-79673522-USD on 12/18/2019 05:14:31 UTC
Account number: EB-90278-EUR on 12/17/2019 02:16:02 UTC

java.lang.RuntimeException: org.springframework.mail.MailAuthenticationException: Authentication failed; nested exception is javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException:

 

Solution:

The external SMTP credentials were never changed and there were three email sending failures with external SMTP authentication failed error. Also, we were unable to reproduce the issue with the same external SMTP credentials and they suspect that the issue wasn't with our Notification service. 

There might some internal issue with the external SMTP server on the other end with its authentication service at that time and was later resolved which would have caused the exception.
