We would like a way to trigger a failed payment, so that we can test out our notifications for it.

Solution:
Depending on which Payment Gateway you use, they will have certain credit card numbers which will trigger a failed payment notification.
If however your Payment Gateway does not have such test credit cards, please uncheck the below checkbox:
Then, create a Payment Method with incorrect Credit Card details, and try to do a payment.
This should then return an error, as the Payment Gateway will recognise the Payment Method as being incorrect.

To clarify, please make sure that Verify new credit card field shown in the screen shot is disabled.
