Service period for on demand usage

Hi!

We are having an use case in which we should invoice usages on demand and the setup on product catalog is done and doable, when selecting per unit/tiered charge model and Usage Records Rating Option as On demand.

The problem is that when you send usage from 01.06.2019 to 14.06.2019 - and doing a bill run in 15.06.2019, the invoice will look OK, service period will be 01.06.2019-14.06.2019, which is correct, everything will be catched up, but when uploading usage from 15.06.2019 to 30.06.2019 and doing a bill run in 1.07.2019, all the unprocessed usage will be processed, but the service period on the invoice will be 01.06.2019-30.06.2019, so the customer will have the impression that he was billed twice for the period 01.06-14.06, which is not OK.

I have looked over the merged fields from the invoice template, thinking that maybe we can specify which period should be shown, but I didn't really find any solution, since the service period for the second invoice is wrong.

Do you think we can have a fix on this one? It doesn't make any sense to be as it is today.

Thank you.

Re: Service period for on demand usage

HI @Madalina

From the application working view, when generating the second invoice, 01.06.2019 to 14.06.2019 is still open, that's why in the generated second invoice, the billing period is 01.06.2019-30.06.2019 in the invoice. In other words, after the first invoice posted, if you upload some usage records which start date drops in 01.06.2019 to 14.06.2019, they will still be billed in the second invoice.

Re: Service period for on demand usage

Hi @Yong ,

This totally make sense. In order to display the correct dates on the invoice, I had a look over the available fields and I am wondering if UsageSummary.ServiceStartDate and UsageSummary.ServiceEndDate are the dates for the usage transactions, as in my example above:

- for the first invoice, we will have UsageSummary.ServiceStartDate as 01.06.2019 and UsageSummary.ServiceEndDate as 14.06.2019

- for the second invoice UsageSummary.ServiceStartDate will be 15.06.2019 and UsageSummary.ServiceEndDate will be 30.06.2019?

Because this could solve our problem. In this way, the customer will know exactly which is the period for which he is invoiced, but unfortunately I'm not able to test, because I didn't have enough time to test and play with nested tables.

Hi,

Do you think there is any solution to be able to display the correct service period on the invoice template? Will nested tables help?

Thank you,

Re: Service period for on demand usage

Hello @Madalina

One workaround I can think of is adding Usage Summary Fields in the invoice template so the end customer has more visibility of the billed usage in the second invoice https://knowledgecenter.zuora.com/CB_Billing/IA_Invoices/Creating_a_Custom_Invoice_Template/Merge_Fi...

One more suggestion is you can bring your concern to your zuora account manager and they will help you seek further assistance from zuora Subject Matter Expert in invoice template domain.
