Visa's Commercial Enhanced Data Program (CEDP)

    Posted 11 hours ago

Visa recently announced its Commercial Enhanced Data Program (CEDP) - a new initiative aimed at improving the quality and consistency of commercial transaction data across the ecosystem.

    What is CEDP?

CEDP is designed to standardize and expand the Level 2 and Level 3 data that accompanies commercial card transactions. This includes richer details like tax amounts, line-item data, customer reference fields, and more.

    The goal:

    • Help issuers deliver better reporting and reconciliation for commercial customers

    • Enable buyers to gain deeper visibility into spend

    • Improve straight-through processing for B2B payments

    What's changing?

Visa is introducing new requirements around:

    • Data completeness and formatting for enhanced data fields in Level 3 data submissions

    • Validation rules at authorization and clearing

    • A phased rollout that will increasingly enforce compliance

    • Removing Level 2 interchange

    Visa's rollout timeline

Visa is taking a phased approach to CEDP:

    • 2025 (early phases): Program introduction and initial data quality monitoring

    • 2025–2026: Gradual enforcement of data standards and validation requirements

    • April 2026: Level 2 interchange will be retired

    • Beyond 2026: Broader global expansion and stricter compliance expectations

    How we're responding

We're actively aligning our platform to support customers through this transition. Based on current development work, our focus includes:

    • Improved support for enhanced data fields
Expanding how Level 2 and Level 3 data can be captured, stored, and passed through to gateways

    • Data validation and formatting readiness
Ensuring that submitted data meets Visa's evolving requirements to reduce declines or data rejections

    • Gateway compatibility updates
Working with gateway partners to ensure enhanced data is consistently transmitted and supported end-to-end

    What this means for you

If you process commercial card payments, CEDP will likely impact how you structure and submit transaction data. Taking steps now to improve data completeness will help avoid disruptions as enforcement increases.

If you have questions or want to better understand how this applies to your setup, let us know in the comments.
