Re: Salesforce.com CRM ID 15 digits vs 18 digits

Problem:

Why are there two different lengths of CRM ID?

Solution:

The 18 digit case-sensitive CRM ID is reference through API calls, the 15 digit case-sensitive CRM ID is reference in the UI. The last 3 digit of the 18 digit CRM ID is the checksum of the capitalizations of the first 15 characters. The reason for the last 3 digit checksum is a workaround for legacy systems that are not compatible with case-sensitive IDs.
