Create SKU using customized number

Question: I want to customize the Product SKU to a particular number.

Example: If the previous SKU is SKU-0000058 and i want the next SKU to be SKU-0000100 when i try to save i get an error: SKU number 'SKU-00000100' is in conflict with the system generated SKU.

The current design is that the specified value of the SKU must ONLY be 2 values greater than the generated SKU value. If the user specify an SKU value which is greater than 2 values of the generated SKU, the message "SKU number 'SKU-XXXXXXXX' is in conflict with the system generated." will be encountered.

Re: Create SKU using customized number

Workaround: If it is imperative for users to use an SKU which greater than 2 values of the generated SKU, the recommended process is as follows:

  • when creating a new product, go ahead and use the system generated SKU displayed on the product detail page
  • add the necessary details in the product
  • save the product
  • edit the product to modify the SKU that would reflect the intended value

The action above would effectively modify the system generated SKU even if the new SKU value is greater than 2 values of the generated SKU.
