How to get the MRR with discount applied?

Question:

We are trying to build a report that shows us an account's total MRR, with the discount amount applied. For instance, we have an account with a $20 MRR, but they also have a 100% account level discount. We're using the new report generator, but can't get it to create a report that would show me that this particular's MRR is $0.

Re: How to get the MRR with discount applied?

Solution:

There is a data source Discount Applied Metrics, which we could use to help get a report of the MRR after discount in Reporting.

The report would retrieve the amount of discount applying to each Rate Plan Charge

so we will need to do calculation outside of Zuora to get the real MRR of each charge after discount.

This is a total bad design and not like Zuora. Why can't you connect this to the Rate Plan Charge so we don't have to do it outside of Zuora? This is not something that would come out of a successful company like Zuora. Total disappoinment.

@ShahinKohan - I get exactly what you're talking about. There is some existing frustration because the two data sources are not currently linked, but I know the Product team has been working on a longer term solution to address questions related to MRR and your feedback will be greatly appreciated! Our team is exploring the best methodologies to provide customers like yourself with more nuanced reporting. We do appreciate the note (and contributions to the Ideas board -- that's super helpful) and your patience as we continue our development.

Re: How to get the MRR with discount applied?

@ShahinKohan - I just wanted to provide an update for you on this.

We're coming out with Order Metrics which will include the net MRR value from a new data source called TCB (Total Contracted Bookings). Now some folks are already in the process of moving to Orders, but if you aren't in that group yet, you can still take advantage of the Order Metrics which can be enabled independently. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager/contact for more information. This is currently in Limited Availability and we hope to move it to General Availability in the near future.

Hi @AmyLy I now have Order Matric on. Can you tell me how to build the report?

Hey @ShahinKohan,

So turning this on will add a few additional data sources to your view (both in the Data Sources area as well as Reporting).

Here's what it looks like in Data Sources:

In Reporting, you can build a basic report using the Orders MRR data source.

Here is the filter I use to build a basic one that breaks it down by rate plan charge:

Here's an example of what the results look like:

Hopefully, this gives you a good start to get in there and experiment with the report!

Re: How to get the MRR with discount applied?

Order MRR is definitely a step forward, but still not quite there.

the tl:dr is if you're entirely on termed subscription, Order MRR is sufficient to get you MRR data.  But if you have some evergreen subscriptions, some of your MRR data will still be wrong.  In those cases, RPC is actually more accurate.

The biggest question for Zuora is, this is an expensive tool to have inaccurate MRR reporting.  Is there a report that accurately reports M/M MRR accounting for discounts and evergreen deals and quantity of units sold?

Do you have a report that shows ALL the subscription changes of an account including discounts using Order MRR?  I've tried building something like this.

- What it does capture is start and end date of an order metric (Good)

- It rolls up the total amount [net of discounts] per order (Good)

But here's the bad.

- It doesn't know how to handle evergreen deals that well, especially plan shifts away or to evergreen

- Because of the above, Order MRR does not reconcile with RPC view at all.

- no way to tie this back to quantity, you'll need to create another Order Quantity report.

skho,

Thanks for your post. We are aware of some limitations with Order Metrics regarding MRR, and are currently working on plans to address the shortcomings.

Thanks for acknowledging the issue.

Accuracy in reporting is paramount to your user/system owner's credibility and justification for an expensive tool (a tool that automatically increases in price every year too....), and more importantly, decision making for c-suite  Do you have a timeline and/or temporary solution to this feature gap?
