Mass update of account field

Hi There,

I would like to update one field on a number of our Accounts. It's a custom field which is only used internally. Is it safe to use the Mass Import feature located in the admin interface? I thought this could be the approach:

  1. Export accounts from admin interface (which downloads a CSV with all accounts)
  2. Update the field inside the CSV without changing anything else
  3. Mass import the new edited CSV

Is this correct or should I take additional steps in order to correctly update the field?

Thank you for your help.

Re: Mass update of account field

Hi @stefano_els,

The method you've described should work without any additional steps!

I have just done this to confirm, and it worked.

- I have exported my customer accounts -> the export of course contains the custom fields as columns

- I have added the new value to that column and saved the CSV

- Finally, I have simply imported the file, and now all my accounts' custom field is updated.

Perfect, just wanted to confirm I was doing it right as it's a delicate operation! Thank you!

Re: Mass update of account field

@stefano_els as it's a delicate operation, I can suggest the following for even more peace of mind:

- trying the same on Sandbox first just to see how it works

- only updating a small subset of customer accounts in your initial import attempt to see if everything looks fine

Let me know if you'd need any more assistance!
