Zephr has upgraded its CDN and Reverse Proxy functionality to leverage the edge compute capabilities of Cloudfare's Workers platform. This update brings significant benefits, such as enhanced speed, reliability, and security.
This article explains the migration plan, the required configuration changes, and answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs) to help you understand and prepare for the update.
Migration Plan
Customers onboarded after December 1, 2024, will automatically use the new CDN and Reverse Proxy functionality with the capabilities of Cloudfare's Workers platform. However, existing customers must make configuration changes to migrate to the new architecture, which will become generally available in early March 2025.
Depending on your integration, you may need to make up to three configuration changes:
- DNS Updates: If your website points to Zephr or integrates with Zephr using a domain name you manage, you must update your DNS records.
- IP Whitelisting: If your site is proxied through Zephr and your origin uses IP whitelisting, you must add specific IP ranges to your whitelist.
- Host Header Adjustments: If your site relies on Zephr modifying the host header during proxying, additional steps will be required to ensure secure communication between Cloudflare and your origin.
Key Dates
- October 1, 2024 - Start of early access program
- March 3, 2025 - General Availability
- July 31, 2025 - Deadline for customer DNS migration
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q. Will I need to change anything in the Zephr admin console?
A. No. This upgrade is designed to be seamless. All functionality will remain unchanged, and your Zephr configuration will stay the same.
Q. Do I need to take any action?
A. Most existing customers must make configuration changes, such as DNS updates, IP whitelisting, and host header adjustments, to migrate to the new architecture, which becomes generally available in March 2025. Customers onboarded after December 1, 2024, are already using the new system and do not need to take further action. If you're unsure, please contact your Customer Success Engineer (CSE) for assistance.
Q. Will this change how I evict content from Zephr's cache?
A. No. The existing /v4/cache-management/evict-origin
endpoint has been updated to also evict content from Cloudflare. Additionally, this endpoint now supports evicting static resources, eliminating the need to raise support tickets for edge cache evictions.
Q. What happens to custom bypasses in my Zephr CloudFront distributions?
A. The new architecture removes the need for these bypasses. Content that does not require a Zephr decision will be served directly from the edge without involving Zephr.
Q. What if I'm already using Cloudflare for DNS or as an edge provider in front of Zephr?
A. For customers already using Cloudflare, Zuora will need to perform additional steps to migrate your domains. Please contact your Customer Success Engineer (CSE) to facilitate this process.
